The art direction took a few COVID twists and turns, originally I was set to co-produce and direct however had to take a backseat during the pre-production due to contracting the virus. Then during production itself the second round of shooting had to be delayed several weeks, which made it interesting for me as the camera operator as I had to try to match dolly shots based on weeks old muscle memory. My main roles in the end were operating the dolly and editing the final video. We tried to push the boat out a bit with some dolly match cuts, dollying in and out and trying to time everything right for the focus and phone lighting up. Playing with lights, mirrors and shadows was always fun - trying to keep the crew's shadows out of the shot, not so much. We also attempted a sped-up background for the first time and learned a ton to inform future videos. Hopefully you enjoy the video. A project created for an HND Makeup student, who required a video for their portfolio which showcases a movie themed makeup and costume setup. The theme for this was The Walking Dead, with the student having come to me with a fully made storyboard and their own makeup, costume and props, it was left to me to help develop the cinematography, camera work, direction of the actor, sound and editing.
